My therapeutic work is underpinned by two important things: the therapeutic relationship and evidence based psychological therapies. Both my clinical experience and research studies suggest that forming a therapeutic relationship that is open, non-judgmental, trusting and empathetic is one of the key active ingredients for effective psychological therapy.
I would describe my therapeutic approach as eclectic and flexible. I draw on a range of approaches to best meet the needs of the individual I am working with, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as mindfulness techniques. I also use Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), a clinical treatment which is effective in treating individuals who have experienced psychological difficulties arising from traumatic experiences, such as assault, road traffic accidents, sexual abuse and childhood neglect. EMDR is also used to treat panic disorder, phobias, performance anxiety, self-esteem issues and other anxiety-related disorders.
I work together with clients to develop a shared understanding of current difficulties, identify factors which may have contributed towards these, as well as factors which may keep these difficulties going. I offer an integrative approach, adapting the way I work according to each individual client's needs in order to provide a uniquely tailored service.
